LOGBETA Function

Returns the logarithm of the beta function.

Categories:Mathematical
CAS

Syntax

LOGBETA(a, b)

Required Arguments

a

is the first shape parameter, where a>0.

b

is the second shape parameter, where b>0.

Details

The LOGBETA function is mathematically given by the equation multiline equation line 1 l o g left-parenthesis beta left-parenthesis a comma b right-parenthesis right-parenthesis equals l o g left-parenthesis upper Gamma left-parenthesis a right-parenthesis right-parenthesis plus l o g left-parenthesis upper Gamma left-parenthesis b right-parenthesis right-parenthesis minus l o g left-parenthesis upper Gamma left-parenthesis a plus b right-parenthesis right-parenthesis
where upper Gamma left-parenthesis period right-parenthesis is the gamma function.
If the expression cannot be computed, LOGBETA returns a missing value.

Example

In the following example, the first shape parameter has a value of 5 and the second shape parameter has a value of 3.
The following SAS statement produces this result:
