Managing Business Contexts
Create a Business Context
Specify the Properties for a Business Context
- From the navigation bar, click
Administration
General Settings and select System Configuration
Manage Business Contexts. - Click
.
- On the
Properties tab, perform these
actions:
- Enter information in the Name field.
- (Optional) Enter information in the Description field.
- In the
Information map path field, enter the
directory location of the information map (including the map name)
that you want to be associated with the business
context.
When you have completed entering the directory path for the information map, click Validate.
Note: You cannot validate the information map path until you have created a direct access point. Save this current item as an active business context. Then follow the instructions in Create a Direct Access Point to create the access point. After you create the direct access point, you can return to the business context to validate the information map path. - To activate the business
context, select Active. By default, the status
of the business context is Inactive.
TipInstead of deleting an existing business context, you can select Inactive to inactivate the business context so that it is available to be activated for future users. Inactivating the business context does not remove the existing association of the business context with items. You cannot associate additional items with an inactive business context.
- For information about modifying the Code setting for the business code format, see Specify Code Settings for Business Contexts.
- Information about the direct access point for the information map appears only after you open a business context that has been created.
Assign Members or Users to the Business Context
- On the
Members tab, click Add Users and
Groups to grant users or groups access to the items that
are associated with the business context. By default, all existing users and
groups are displayed in the Add Members window. In
the Show list, click Users
to display only users or click Groups to display
only groups.
Note: If
is displayed next to a user or group, the user or group has administrative access to all items that are associated with the business context. In the User Roles table on the Roles page,
(all)is displayed in the Assigned Business Contexts column for the roles with this administrative access. For more information, see About Users, Roles, and Groups. - Select the users or groups that
you want to grant access to the items that are associated with the business
context. Click Done.
To view the members of a group, click
in the row for the group.
To grant access to additional users or groups, click
and select users or groups in the Add Members window.
Specify the Settings for a Business Context
Use the Settings tab to specify your time-out and billing options.
Use the Options tab to specify the time-out length to complete the execution of a segment map or a direct marketing task and to set the default AND and OR node rules.
- Navigate to the
Execution Time-out section and specify
the time-out length for a segment map or direct marketing task to
complete its execution.
An execution of an item fails in the following conditions:
- A segment map or direct marketing task fails if its execution exceeds the specified time-out threshold.
- A task that is dependent on a failed segment map execution fails.
- A segment map, a direct marketing task, or a direct marketing task that is dependent on the execution of a segment map fails if the total time to run exceeds the specified time-out threshold to run.
The minimum time-out value is 1 hour and the maximum time-out value is 48 hours. By default, this value is set to 23 hours. When a direct marketing task that depends on a segment map is executed, the time out is based on the combined runtime of both items.
Setting a time-out value prevents segment maps and direct marketing tasks from being kept in a queue indefinitely when a system issue causes the execution of one of these items to fail or when the duration of the execution of an item exceeds the specified time-out value. The occurrence of the segment map or direct marketing task is marked as Failed with a message that explains why the occurrence failed. For more information, see View Segment Map History in SAS Customer Intelligence 360: User’s Guide and Ver historial de tareas in SAS Customer Intelligence 360: User’s Guide.
Note: The on-premises execution is not affected after the time-out value has elapsed. The item returns to an Active state (with an error) but any on-premises execution tasks continue to run. Any results that are sent to the cloud after the time out has elapsed is discarded. - Navigate to the
Default AND and OR Node Rule section
and specify the default rule to use when evaluating AND and OR nodes
in a segment map.
IMPORTANT Any change to the default rule for AND and OR nodes will apply to all newly created nodes and could produce unintended results. Review the differences between the available options before you make changes.
Here are the two options for the AND node rule:
- Meets all conditions defined by input nodes. This is the default option, and it works the same way that a logical AND works.
- Is a member of each group defined by input nodes. This second option works like a SQL intersect command.
Here are the two options for the OR node rule:
- Meets any conditions defined by input nodes. This is the default option, and it works the same way that a logical OR works.
- Is a
member of any of the groups defined by input
nodes. This second option works like a SQL
union command, which often results in the same segment. If
you create a segment map that combines aggregate data, you
might get different results depending on which option you
select for the OR node.
Note: When using aggregated data, the best practice is to select this option.
- Navigate to the
Execution Time-out section and specify
the time-out length for a segment map or direct marketing task to
complete its execution.
- On the Control Groups tab, specify the settings for holdout control groups in the business context. For more information, see Add Tests to a Business Context.
- On the Billing tab, check Enable metered billing for data subjects to specify that the data subjects that are in the business context should count toward billing. This property is enabled by default.

Add Tests to a Business Context
Configure default settings for holdout control groups in the business context. For more information, see Ajustes del grupo de control de exclusión in SAS Customer Intelligence 360: User’s Guide.
- Select Automatically create a
holdout control group in direct marketing tasks for each targeted
segment to create a holdout control group for all the targeted
segments in direct marketing tasks in the business context.
CAUTION
Enabling this option will create holdout control groups for all targeted segments in all new direct marketing tasks that are created in the business context.
Note: Holdout control groups are not automatically created for targeted segments in direct marketing tasks that already exist in the business context.
