Adding a Target Audience in a Planning Item

About Adding a Target Audience

In a planning item, you can specify the target audience that you plan to reach through your marketing activity. If your systems administrator has configured the settings to enable targeting, you can specify one or more planned segments that you want to include in the target audience. In addition, for each segment that you add in the planning item, you can also associate the tasks and messages that contain the marketing and promotional content.

Adding information about the target audience helps you integrate the relevant marketing information in the planning item. For more information, see Edit and Configure a Marketing Hierarchy in SAS Customer Intelligence 360: Administration Guide.

Note: The target audience that you add in a planning item is used only to provide information and references to a marketer for planning and strategy. It might vary from the actual target audience that is defined for a task that delivers content.

Add a Target Audience

To add a target audience to a planning item:

  1. On the Details tab, click Targeting.
  2. To add a segment to a planning item, click Add. A new row is added to the table. You can add multiple segments.
  3. In the Segment column, click Select segment and select a segment.
  4. In the Task Type column, from the drop-down list select a task type that you want to associate with the selected segment.
Note: Currently only the direct marketing task type is supported for defining a target audience in a planning item. If a direct marketing task is associated with the planning item for which targeting is defined, you can import the selected segments into the task. On the Relationships tab of the planning item, switch to the Design mode of that task and click Import from Planning Item on the Targeting tab.
  5. In the Messages column, click Edit to select one or more messages that you want to associate with the selected segment.
  6. To add notes, select a row and click Notes. Add any information that might be relevant to the selected segment.
