About Tasks
Tasks coordinate the items that SAS Customer Intelligence 360 uses to deliver content to a target audience. As a task runs, it collects data that can be used to monitor performance or be used to refine how the task delivers content.
The information that you specify in a task answers the following marketing questions:
- Where do I want to deliver the content?
There are two main things to consider when answering this question: the channel
(email, mobile, web, direct, and external agent) and whether the content needs to
be
displayed while a user is active. After you know the channel, you can use the
options for that channel to further refine how the content is delivered. For more information, see Types of Tasks.
Navigate to the Tasks page to create and manage tasks.
- Which creative do I want to use? Creatives
are the marketing content that you want to deliver. A task supports only the
creative types that are relevant for that type of task. For example, if your task
delivers an in-app message, you must select an in-app message creative. Email tasks
support HTML or plain text creatives. You can specify a creative that is already
saved, or you can create a creative when you start designing the task. For some task
types, you can fine-tune how creatives are managed. For example, you might limit the
number of times that a task displays content. In addition, you might choose to
display different creatives for subsets of your target audience. For more information, see About Creatives.
Depending on the type of task, access creatives in one of these ways:
- If the task has tabs, navigate to the Content tab.
- If the task does not have tabs, hover over the Content section and click Edit.
- Who is the target audience? Your target
audience is the group of people that you want to reach with your content. You can
define a target audience by adding criteria that represent the characteristics that
you are targeting, such as geographic location, behavior, or demographics. You can
also create segments (groups of people with similar characteristics) that can be
used to define the targeting criteria. For more information, see About Segments
and Using Audiences and Segments in Targeting.
Depending on the type of task, access targeting in one of these ways:
- If the task has tabs, navigate to the Targeting tab.
- If the task does not have tabs, hover over the Targeting section and click Edit.
- When do I want to deliver the task? Consider
whether your content is meant for one person or many people and if it is time
sensitive. For example, if the content delivery is dependent on an action, then use
a triggered task, such as a triggered push notification or triggered email task. If
your task is part of a holiday campaign, content delivery might be dependent on a
range of dates that should be set as the task schedule. If you are announcing a
promotional announcement, use a bulk email task or a bulk mobile task to send one
set of content to many people at once.
Depending on the type of task, access scheduling options in one of these ways:
- If the task has tabs, navigate to the Orchestration tab.
- If the task does not have tabs, hover over the Send Options section and click Edit.
- How do I want to measure success? Use
metrics and reports to track the performance of your task. All tasks require a
primary metric, also known as the conversion metric. In addition, some tasks support
secondary metrics that you can use to measure other benchmarks that you are
interested in. Metrics are specified by selecting events that can be classified as
response or contact events.
The data that shows how your task is progressing varies for each task type. Tasks contain detailed and summary data of metric performance, including conversion rate. Some tasks also contain reports that contain ecommerce data, such as click rates. For more information, see Understanding Insights.
Depending on the type of task, access insights in one of these ways:
- If the task has tabs, navigate to the Insights tab.
- If the task does not have tabs and is active, opening the task displays its insights.
