About the Mobile SDK
The mobile Software Development Kit (SDK) for SAS Customer Intelligence 360 is a supporting library that enables a mobile app developer to add support for event collection and managed content to your native mobile applications (apps).
Here are some benefits that the mobile SDK provides for marketers, business analysts, designers, and mobile app developers:
- enables you to publish content to the mobile app without involving mobile app development teams or IT. By using the mobile SDK, the business can re-direct its technical resources toward other, more strategic efforts such as improving the user experience in the mobile app or important customer-driven initiatives.
- uses the built-in functionality
of SAS Customer Intelligence
360. Here are some examples:
- facilitates the delivery of creatives to target audiences.
- enables you to publish both standard and personalized content (for example, through the use of merge tags).
- tracks geofences and beacons, if your company needs to support these tools.
- enables you to create your own custom events and supports several built-in system events.
- enforces impression limits to ensure adherence to your company’s contact policy.
- collects behavioral and response data about mobile app usage.
- minimizes overhead for
the development and usage of your native mobile app. Here are some
examples:
- proactively addresses changes that are related to annual platform updates for Android and iOS.
- provides backward compatibility of mobile operating systems on which the mobile SDK is tested and supported. For more information, see Supported Operating System and Software Requirements.
- takes advantage of cross-platform
services that SAS Customer Intelligence
360 provides. Here are some examples:
- identity services and customer profile management.
- a device token cleanup routine that continuously removes bad tokens from the pool of potential mobile devices using an automatic device token cleanup routine, which minimizes potential problems in the delivery of push notifications and in-app messages. If an error occurs, the mobile messaging service communicates the error back to SAS Customer Intelligence 360, which updates records to ensure that content is not sent to unreachable or error-prone devices in the future.
- a diagnostics console that enables users with administration access to troubleshoot issues with content delivery, identity data, and event collection.
- an execution engine that processes bulk push notifications, triggered push notifications, in-app messages, and spots based on their unique characteristics.
Support is provided for iOS and Android devices.
Supported Operating System and Software Requirements
SAS Customer Intelligence 360 supports native mobile apps, such as Android and iOS, which mobile app developers code using languages like Swift or ObjC for iOS and Java or Kotlin for Android.
Here is a list of the supported operating system and software requirements for the iOS SDK:
- iOS 11 and later
- Xcode (latest version)
Here is a list of the supported operating system and software requirements for the Android SDK:
- Android 6.0 and later
- Android SDK:
- Build-tools API level 30 and later
- compileSdkVersion: 30 and later
- minSdkVersion 23
Note: The SDK is automatically disabled at run-time in devices lower than API 23. However, this functionality is not verified at levels lower than 21.
- targetSdkVersion: 30
- Gradle dependencies:
- JSON processing library: Gson 2.8.5 and later
- For location-based features: Google Play services location library (play-services-location) 16 and later
- For mobile messaging: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) SDK (firebase-messaging) 17 and later
Deliver the Mobile SDK
The iOS Mobile SDK for SAS Customer Intelligence 360 is an iOS framework that is a directory of files in a particular structure. The directory includes headers, binaries, and resource files. The Android Mobile SDK for SAS Customer Intelligence 360 is a self-contained Java library in the form of a JAR file.
These are the two ways that a mobile app developer can obtain the mobile SDK:
- You can download the mobile SDK through the user interface for SAS Customer Intelligence 360 and deliver the SDK ZIP file (SASCollector_<applicationID>.zip) to the mobile app developer to install. The iOS SDK and the Android SDK are distributed together as a single ZIP package. A SASCollector.plist file for iOS and a SASCollector.properties file for Android are included in the download package. The files are prepopulated for the customer's selected tenant and mobile app ID. See Implement the SDK Framework for a Mobile Application in SAS Customer Intelligence 360: Administration Guide.
- The mobile app developer can
access the mobile SDK from a public repository. Instructions for mobile app
developers are provided in SAS Customer Intelligence 360: Developer’s Guide for Mobile Applications.
Note: A SASCollector.plist file for iOS and a SASCollector.properties file for Android contain necessary information to successfully implement the mobile SDK. The files are not included in the public repository. The files must be obtained from the mobile SDK that is downloaded from SAS Customer Intelligence 360.
SDK Change Logs
For the latest changes to the mobile SDK for Android, see Change Log for the SAS Customer Intelligence 360 Mobile SDK for Android. For iOS, see Change Log for the SAS Customer Intelligence 360 Mobile SDK for iOS.
Beginning with release 22.07, the mobile SDKs are released independently of the SAS Customer Intelligence 360 release. The mobile app developer should always work with the most recently released SDK version to take advantage of the latest updates.
Integrate SAS Customer Intelligence 360 Mobile SDKs with a Hybrid App
Developers might use certain hybrid app development frameworks to design mobile apps. For example, a developer might use an open-source software development kit, like Flutter, to design a native mobile application that uses only one codebase for both Android and iOS.
Documentation is available that supports the integration of SAS Customer Intelligence 360 mobile SDKs for Android and iOS with mobile apps that are built using hybrid app technology. Cookbooks show how to create a plug-in that adds the capabilities of SAS Customer Intelligence mobile SDKs. Sample projects in zip packages are provided as companions to the cookbooks.
