The MPS-Format Data Table

INDICATORS Section (Optional)

The INDICATORS section describes indicator constraints in the problem instance. For more information, see the section Indicator Constraints.

  • Indicator record:

    _ID_ Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4 Field5 Field6
Number INDICATO Blank Blank . Blank .

  • Data record:

    _ID_ Field1 Field2 Field3 Field4 Field5 Field6
Number IF Row name (e.g., rowi) Column name (e.g., colj) Indicator value Blank .

Notes:

  1. Historically, Field1 is eight characters wide in the MPS format, and that is how the MPS data tables are implemented in SAS. For this reason, the section indicator is INDICATO instead of INDICATORS.

  2. The row that is identified by rowi is the consequent of the indicator constraint. The sense of this constraint as well as its coefficients, right-hand side, and possibly its range is specified in the ROWS, COLUMNS, RHS, and RANGES sections.

  3. The column that is identified by colj is the indicator variable in the conditional of the indicator constraint.

  4. In any feasible solution to the problem, if the value of the indicator variable is equal to the indicator value specified in field4, then the consequent must be satisfied; otherwise the consequent might or might not hold.

  5. Variable colj must be binary, and the indicator value must be 0 or 1.
