Web Event Attributes

When you define tasks, data views, or events that can use data from a type of web event, you can select attributes from the source event. The types of attributes that you can select depend on the type of event that the source event is based on. For example, if you defined a Promotion View event, you can use the event attributes from the Page View event type.

Note: This section does not include attributes for event data that is injected from sources that are not a web page. Attributes from Mobile App events, JavaScript API events, and external events are defined in the user interface, but the attributes themselves are sent from the corresponding source.

Attributes for Click Events

Events that are based on the Click event type are Add to Cart, Business Process steps, and Custom events.

For these events, you can select the following attributes on the Event Attributes tab:

  • Target: id. The ID of the clicked element, such as <a id="itemID" href="example.html">.
  • Target: name. The name of the clicked element, such as <a name="itemName" href="example.html">.
  • Target: href. The clicked link, which is the fully qualified URL. The browser translates the relative href into a fully qualified URL such as http://mysite.com/example.html.
  • Target: alt. The alternative text for the clicked element, such as <img name=imageName alt="Click here" src="button.jpg">. The alternative text is displayed when you position your mouse pointer over the element or when the image cannot be loaded.
  • Target: tagName. The tag name for the clicked element, which indicates the type of HTML tag such as BUTTON or IMG.
  • Target: selectorPath. The CSS selector path for the clicked object. This attribute is case sensitive. You can configure this attribute in two ways:
    • String comparison. When you use the operators CONTAINS, STARTS WITH, ENDS WITH, and REGEX, SAS Customer Intelligence 360 captures the complete CSS selector path for the click, starting with the first element under the <body> element. The system transforms this path into a static string that is sent as an attribute with the event. Based on the match criteria, the static string is then compared to the value that you set for the Target: selectorPath field.
    • CSS selector syntax. When you use the EQUALS operator, you can use CSS selector syntax (external) to compare selector paths. This method is more flexible, because it enables you to use CSS wildcard patterns and match custom attributes in the DOM.

For more information, see Using Selector Paths in SAS Customer Intelligence 360.

  • Target: innerText. The text content of the element that is clicked.
  • Target: onClick. The onclick attribute of a link, such as <img src="bla.jpg" onclick="script.js">.
  • Target: HTML5 custom data attribute. Any other attribute of the clicked element. You can use operators such as CONTAINS, STARTS WITH, and so on.

Attributes for Content Changes

Custom events and Business Process steps are the only types of events that can use the Content Change event type.

For events that are based on the Content Change event type, the Event Attributes tab contains only one entry, which corresponds to the page element that the event monitors.

Attributes for Field Interactions

Custom events and Business Process steps are the only types of events that can use the Field Interaction event type.

For these events, you can select the following attributes from the Event Attributes tab:

  • Form: id. The ID attribute of the form that changed.
  • Form: name. The name attribute of the form that changed.
  • Field: id. The ID attribute of the field that changed.
  • Field: name. The name attribute of the field that changed.
  • Field: value. The value of the field that changed.

Attributes for Form Submits

Events that are based on the Form Submit event type are Add to Cart, Business Process steps, Custom Events, and Internal Search.

For these events, the Event Attributes tab contains two entries for the form that the event monitors:

  • Form: id. The ID attribute of the form that is submitted.
  • Form: name. The name attribute of the form that is submitted.

Attributes for JavaScript Variable Changes

Custom events and Business Process steps are the only types of events that can use the JavaScript Variable Change event type.

For these events, the Event Attributes tab contains only one entry, which corresponds to the JavaScript variable that the event monitors.

Attributes for Page Views

Events that are based on the Page View event type are Business Process steps, Cart View, Checkout View, Custom events, Promotion View, Promotion, and Purchase View.

For these events, there is no Event Attributes tab. You can select only attributes from the Page Load Attributes tab. For more information, see Page Elements and Attributes.
