In this example, the BEA data set name is MNE, as specified in the SETNAME= option. The SERIESID="5,4" option specifies that the statistics for two series, Net Income and Total Sales, are requested. The COUNTRY="202,100,513" option specifies that Brazil, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the three countries whose data are selected to be retrieved. The INDUSTRY=ALL option indicates that all industries are to be reported. The DIRECTIONOFINVESTMENT=OUTWARD option indicates that the United States is where the parent company is from. The CLASSIFICATION=CountryByIndustry option indicates that each country’s data are to be retrieved by industry—in this case, all industries. The YEAR='2012,2011' option specifies that the selected data are for two years, 2012 and 2011. The output is shown in Output 22.6.1, which contains 97 variables, whose names are made up of the following concatenations in this order: 'SeriesID_', series ID, 'ROW_', row position, 'COL_', and industry code (column code). The OUTJSON= option specifies the name of the SAS output data set, which is also the name of the JSON data file that is retrieved from the BEA website and read into SAS. Output 22.6.1 shows the output for 2011 and 2012. Note that the SASEBEA engine sorts the years in chronological order, even though they can be specified in any order. Also, the output value, "(D)", indicates that the data in the cell have been suppressed to avoid disclosure of data of individual companies.
