This document is intended for existing SAS customers who are preparing to upgrade an existing SAS 9.4 deployment. The initial release of SAS 9.4 (SAS 9.4M0 or TS1M0, Rev. 940_13w26) occurred in July 2013. SAS 9.4 has since been updated multiple times through the delivery of maintenance releases. You have multiple options for updating your SAS deployment to a more recent maintenance release.

The purpose of this document is to help you upgrade SAS. It notifies you of changes that you might see in SAS 9.4 and how those changes might affect your site. This document also guides you toward the upgrade path that best suits your situation. An in-place upgrade or update might be supported for your SAS deployment, but in some cases, a migration is required in addition to the software upgrade.

Overview and Workflow explains, at a high level, the process for in-place upgrades of SAS as a series of steps.

- any steps that you might need to perform before you upgrade to a new release
- any software changes that might result in different behavior from a previous release
