Using SAS Viya Workbench
SAS Viya Workbench has greatly simplified the SAS programming experience by offering a syntax style nearly identical to that of SAS 9 and earlier releases. However, there are minor exceptions. In the past, SAS Viya procedures required the use of a CAS engine libref. This engine served multiple purposes, but it was primarily used to upload data to the CAS server and manage the data. Its additional purposes included support of new data types and improved performance for large data sets. No CAS server is needed for SAS Viya Workbench, because all computations are done in place for you in a single location.
In the following program, the LIBNAME statement creates a mylib libref that the examples in this chapter use to refer to your current or desired work directory:
libname mylib ".";
