Overview of SAS Analytics for IoT

SAS Analytics for IoT

SAS Analytics for IoT is a stand-alone software offering that also integrates various SAS products to enable users to organize and analyze their IoT data. It uses a common data foundation and dashboard to provide a smooth workflow and to connect products such as SAS Field Quality Analytics, SAS Production Quality Analytics, and SAS Asset Performance Analytics.

The software offering includes a web-based product named SAS Analytics for IoT. It enables you to load industry-specific data (primarily sensor data) into a data mart, filter it by defining a data selection, and create a data launcher to load the filtered data into a CAS table for further analysis and exploration.

SAS Analytics for IoT provides the following features:

  • It can work with SAS Event Stream Processing to analyze data captured in real time. SAS Event Stream Processing runs on a server or an edge device to process real-time streaming data from the sensor.
  • Its sensor-focused data model is built to handle real-time data and data from enterprise data sources. Flexible naming conventions for tables and columns provide additional configuration options.
  • It has an expanded data model and streamlined ETL process that support manufacturing quality data.
  • It includes a data profiler that visualizes system data volumes and distributions.
  • It features explorations that enable you to visualize and find patterns in large volumes of sensor data. It also provides data reduction techniques for high-volume data sources.
  • It uses data selections and launchers to select any combination of data and launch it directly into one of the following:
    • CSV files
    • SAS Visual Analytics
    • SAS Model Studio, which includes SAS Visual Data Mining and Machine Learning, SAS Visual Forecasting, and SAS Visual Text Analytics
    • SAS Studio

You can also access the data selections and launchers through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for use in other applications.

  • After you launch data into SAS Visual Analytics or SAS Model Studio, you can use the data to develop reports, dashboards, and analytic models. SAS Model Manager enables analytic models to be compared and managed over time.

You can deploy the models that you develop and manage on landed data. Alternatively, you can use SAS Event Stream Manager to deploy models on streaming data. In that case, SAS Event Stream Processing can use the models to provide alerts. The models can also be shared as inputs to SAS Decision Manager, SAS Visual Analytics, and other products to make the results actionable.

SAS Analytics for IoT is used as a foundation for additional software offerings with data and analytics specific to manufacturing quality. These offerings include the following solutions:

  • SAS Field Quality Analytics
  • SAS Production Quality Analytics
  • SAS Asset Performance Analytics

SAS Field Quality Analytics

Quality and reliability are the most significant prerequisites for profitability. Warranty data and other types of data about field failures are important for manufacturers and resellers to analyze and to understand. SAS Field Quality Analytics is an integrated reporting and analysis tool that provides the flexibility and functionality to perform warranty-related problem identification, prioritization, and definition for root cause analysis. The components of SAS Field Quality Analytics help leading manufacturers take full advantage of the data that they collect. SAS Field Quality Analytics provides the foundation for incorporation of multiple data types (for example, call center, customer survey, and end-of-line audit data), to produce a comprehensive representation of a product's field performance.

SAS Production Quality Analytics

SAS Production Quality Analytics provides analytical and fact-based insights to lower cost of quality and increase overall operational performance. It allows manufacturers to identify quality problems within the manufacturing process to reduce scrap and rework, and lower the cost of poor quality. The added functionality helps create models that can be used to predict future quality issues. The analytics-based solution helps integrate all data relevant to quality, productivity, and utilization. It also assists in monitoring the health of processes and helps drive sustainable quality, and yield improvements while containing costs. SAS Production Quality Analytics provides users with a rich set of interactive root-cause analysis and quality improvement tools that can identify quality issues before they become serious problems. The solution’s integrated data mining capabilities allow organizations to gain true process understanding across their entire manufacturing operations. Best-practice workflows and a case-management feature document findings and problem-resolution measures, while promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing.

SAS Asset Performance Analytics

SAS Asset Performance Analytics is an analytics-driven solution that helps you achieve the goal of optimally managing your assets. Organizations that rely on critical assets require higher asset uptime, less unplanned maintenance, and reduced maintenance costs. The optimal management of critical assets requires a maintenance strategy that keeps operations up and guarantees the safety and the reliability of those assets. Assets have physical devices that monitor each object and capture data points (such as pressure, temperature, or velocity) about the object at regular intervals. The data from these devices provides the base for monitoring the performance of the assets, detecting the need for maintenance, and predicting asset failure. SAS Asset Performance Analytics provides analytic and predictive capabilities to ensure peak performance and minimal downtime for crucial assets and equipment.
